About Us
North Country Community Safety Project (NCCSP)’s mission is to further public wellbeing and safety in the White Mountains of New Hampshire through:
- Re-allocating funds from police departments to nonviolent social services
- Ensuring equitable and anti-racist public services
- Advocating for accountability and transparency for law enforcement
- De-militarizing law enforcement
Why work for community safety?
The North Country Community Safety Project members challenge the idea that increasing police presence makes us safer. Instead, we know that our communities become safe and healthy with access to mental health services, food, housing, and freedom.
We can achieve our goals of accessible, anti-racist and accountable public services by following the lead of neighborhoods and cities across the country and investing community money where it counts.
This work saves lives.
Leadership
We are consensus driven. We build agreement within our members before acting. All members have the opportunity and are encouraged to bring forth ideas to the group. Ultimately all decisions are made collectively.
choice
Members work on the initiatives they believe in and choose their role in the group based on their individual strengths and interests. Though our individual beliefs may differ, we work collectively toward a common goal.
privacy
We respect all people’s privacy. No names or contact info will be shared with any entity (police department, press, etc.) without consent.
empathy
We practice empathy; we engage comrades with the intent to learn about and connect with their contexts.
diversity
We acknowledge, respect and celebrate differences and commonalities. We work vigorously for freedom and justice for all Black people and, by extension, all people of all backgrounds in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
restorative
We intentionally build and nurture a beloved community that is bonded together through a beautiful struggle that is restorative, not depleting.
